Mena Fly Fishing

A friend of mine recommended me Mena Fly fishing for tarpon.Javi was very communicative throughout the planning process, answering every email.Helped about gear, flies, best days to visit.We fished 5 days with  our guide Carlos, which knew the best spots and had a great energy.Food was amazing and the best is the people taking care of us the whole time (front desk, cooking, house keeping)Would definetly recommend.

Perfectly organized fishing trip!These guys took care of every detail from beginning to end.The accomodation doesn't gets any better than this: air conditioned in the room, hot water, nice beds.Food is absolutely delicious.Their itinirary is more than perfect, allows you to enjoy the whole day without getting burnt out.We had 2 guides Carlos and Chelito, bothe were great.100 out of 10!

We had 5 days fly fishing with Carlos for tarpon.We had many shots, hookups and landed very few because I'm just a beginner.Carlos was very profesional, considerate and taught us about birds on our way to find the tarpons.Food was INCREDIBLY good: fresh seafood, fish, chicken, beef and traditional Mexican dishes. They have it all.There was excellent communication prior to and upon arrival.I recommend Mena Fly Fishing for sure!

My wife and I spent 4 days fly fishing for Tarpon (our second visit) with Mena Fly Fishing at Hotel San Felipe de Jesus in mid-August of 2022. This is one of our most favorite trips and fisheries in the Yucatan, with a top-notch small family-run business.What makes fly fishing with Mena so special? From top to bottom this is a first-class well-run operation.Beginning with safe, easy, convenient pick-up and return to Cancun airport or Merida. Upon arrival the staff meet you at the door with welcome margaritas, introduce themselves and review your schedule. We just can’t say enough about the schedule! Appreciated the early morning start and mid-day break for lunch and siesta. Very comfortable, clean, updated rooms decorated with artwork from Don Jesus Mena. A perfect way to take a piece of this great experience home with you. The hotel sits right on the docks with views of the beautiful ocean sunrises and sunsets.The guides Carlos, Pedro and Carlos are excellent. They speak good English, know the water, are good at spotting Tarpon and can put you on the fish. The fishing was sometimes challenging but Tarpon were plentiful and you had lots of shots at them.All meals are provided in the hotel dining room and you will not find any better. Many thanks to the fine culinary skills of Fili and Diana, and the very attentive, accommodating service by all Mena staff. You will not want for anything and the food is exceptional.The location of this sleepy little fishing town is close to Rio Lagartos. It is laid-back and very special, with an abundance of wildlife and of course those beautiful flamingos.Our trip was great in all ways and we can’t wait to return. Thanks to Jesciel, Natalie, Javier, Mena Fly Fishing and Hotel San Felipe de Jesus for an enjoyable, relaxing and memorable trip. These are some fine folks and everyone is treated like family. What a wonderful place. Great people, great food, lots of Tarpon ( you need to know how to set the hook) a nice adventure.

Truly one of my favorite places for tarpon fly fishing. I have been a regular visitor to Mena for the last 3-4 years. San Felipe is a charming quiet town with brightly colored homes.. The moment you walk into the hotel, you are welcomed with such warmth by their staff - it feels like being at home. The decor of the hotel is beautiful with Yucatan artwork and always spotlessly clean, the cooking out of this world with special Mayan cuisine and fresh fish dishes, and the fishing guides superb. One could not ask for a better location - the view is spectacular and the pongas are located right outside the back of the hotel. I have fished with many different guides there and have always been impressed with their knowledge. The tarpon fishing is great and there is always an extra surprise of catching snook or barracuda. What more could one ask for!!I highly recommend Mena!!

The guides did a great job and the whole staff is super friendly. San Felipe is a quiet, little town, which allows to relax and get away from everything. We landed 4 tarpons of about 15-25 pounds. We have been with other guides , but Mena Fly fishing exceed our expectations.

Best fly fishing in San Felipe area. Did a great job finding baby tarpon schools, we visited more than 6 different spots, and all of them with plenty of tarpon rolling!Mind blowing food cooked by FiliExcellent day with our guide Pedro. Highly recommended!
