Shri Nanak Hindu Temple

The Shri Nanak Hindu Temple is a beautiful place filled with lovely and welcoming friends. It's a common Hindu ideal that anything that brings you closer to your true spirituality is a good thing, regardless of whether or not you view yourself as a member of another faith.As a rodeo & ranching enthusiast and daughter of a hunter & livestock farmer, I thought the cow thing was a weird at first, but after a little research I conclude that their reverence for cattle is very similar to the Native American respect for the buffalo. The domestication of cattle was a pivotal point in human evolution and cows should be respected for their sacrifices to our species. (Jews also respect livestock via consumption of Kosher foods). Hindus are mainly vegetarian due to the desire to not harm other living creatures and to have low impact on the environment, but for me, this seems very difficult to do in South Texas where fresh spices and vegetables are not exactly bountiful.It is a common misconception that Hindus are polytheistic... They have many names for the one true God and, just as Christians believe in the Holy Spirit, they believe that divinity manifests in many ways, some of which are represented in the many beautiful statues adorning the temple. This concept can be compared to Sainthood in Catholicism. The stories and lore behind the statues is worth looking into.

Very nice and peaceful place. Did not expect much when i went there, but really impressed with the Shiv Temple. there are other deities as well. Shivji, Ganeshji, Balaji, Srikrishna, Shirdi Sai, Durga Devi.The temple I believe is donated by local businessman and his family. God bless them.The priest, the best I have seen. The mantras are so crisp and clear and he is also very kind and humble.Very very impressed!.

What about guru (shri) nanak sahib. You mentioned the name of Guru nanak but there is nothing about sikh religion.

very beautiful temple, the priest is very helpful and definitely a place to visit if you are in the local area.

Only Indian temple in the Rio Grande Valley. Festivals are celebrated here with devotional fervor. Enjoyed janmashtami celebration.
