Humedal de Yagul

An ancient lake that has become a vegetated wetland, and probably a source of freshwater for many prehistoric people in the area including a nearby palace for rulers. Walk or bike to the closest corner on the dirt road from the paved road to the Yagul Archaeological Site to access unless you have a 4x4 you want all scratched up.There's an elevated walkway with a couple covered areas to view nature across the lake and birdwatching. You can see the walkway on the Google's satellite image, however in typical Mexican government fashion they built it, but never maintained it. Some slats of the walkway have broken through, but I got to the end and back unscathed by walking in the middle of the path where there's a metal bar underneath. If your real heavy or unsteady I wouldn't attempt it.Please pack out your trash- its lighter when there isn't anything in it! Don't leave it for other visitors to endure for years to come and pollute the beautiful nature this place is.

It is a very natural and beautiful place. A bit hard to find though. Follow the map location and eventually you will see a few well placed stones heading off to the right.It's a natural marsh land that has beautiful Vistas of the water, caves, and natural scenery.Be very careful crossing the bridge. Some of the planks are broken but it is worth it to go all the way to the end. Walk directly in the middle where there is an underbar of metal. Also be careful as some grass is very overgrown.Great spot for photos and bird watching. Very serene and worth the trek to get to. Quiet and no road noise.
