Oaxaca cooking classes La Cocina Oaxaqueña

Had a great experience at this class. We got to experience some traditional methods of Mexican cooking and techniques such as charring chillis. We made mole which is a must for a Oaxacan course.

Loved loved loved this class! This was the highlight of our trip to Oaxaca state. Thank you so much for taking us to the special market for shopping (much better then the markets that all tourist go to) and for teaching us about all the great ingredients. The class was well organized, fun and entertaining. Plus, the food, drinks and company were excellent!!!!

This cooking class was just okay - that said Chef Gerardo does try and offer a lot as part of his class like drinks included during the class, pick-up and drop-off, and market tour.We cooked a sopa Azteca, mole coloradito, and a picadillo with chicken and guacamole. You get to cook inside Gerardo's family home, which is beautiful.Once we were in the kitchen and cooking things seemed to get disorganized with the Chef and our party of four. Many times it was unclear what we were supposed to be doing. You don't actually get to cook each recipe yourself rather you get certain parts of the recipe to work on - therein lies the issue because Gerardo was consistently having to micro-mange everything because we were all doing different things. I would have learned more and preferred cooking each recipe myself.The food despite looking beautiful was just okay. The sopa broth was fairly neutral but the picadillo was yummy, the mole was on the bitter-side. The picadillo turned out well, with the salsas that they provide, which according to the menu I thought we were going to learn how to make, but we didn't.The menu description also makes it seem like you get to prepare a dessert, but instead you buy a couple pastries from the market. I would have preferred to learn a dessert recipe.For the price about $60 you get a lot, but we enjoyed the cooking classes and food we had at a couple other Oaxacan cooking schools a lot more.

Tuvimos el placer de preparar y degustar auténtica comida oaxaqueña con Gerardo. Nos llevó al mercado a comprar los ingredientes, y platicamos de los diferentes usos del montón de frutas, verduras regionales y demás artículos caraterísticos de los mercados oaxaqueños. Fue una buena experiencia donde aprendimos y reforzamos muchos conocimientos de las técnicas usadas en la cocina mexicana. Aunque la preparación de la comida pareció sencilla, la experiencia de Gerardo es muy notable.

The trip to the market was an experience in itself. It was great to learn about tamales, mole and quesadillas. The kitchen we cooked in was really beautiful.

Actually known as Oaxaca Cooking School. We had a wonderful experience here with Gerardo (Jerry), his mother and assistant. First our group of six went to the central market to shop, then we prepared numerous Oaxacan dishes, and finally, of course, we enjoyed our delicious meal. Jerry was very knowledgeable, very professional and yet friendly and easy going. Very highly recommended.

Excelente oportunidad de conocer a través de la gastronomía, un poco de Oaxaca. Muy buena la clase, organizada y limpio el espacio, buenos anfitriones.

Excelente plan para pasar la mitad del día en Oaxaca. Vas a hacer compras al mercado local y luego preparas platos típicos en un ambiente maravilloso. El mejor pollo con mole que he probado!

Me encantaron las clases! Súper interesante ver como se elabora el mole de manera tradicional.
